Worbla vs Wonderflex are they really any different?

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a good Halloween and now close to Thanksgiving. Wow has time passed since my last post. Been very busy with helping out the 501st at Boo At the Zoo here in Colorado Springs and on top of that in about 2 days I will be leaving to Wizard World Austin Comic Con! 

Today I would love to go over the difference between Worbla and Wonderflex. 

Back Ground of both products - Worbla is a German product their for it has to be transported to the US. On the other hand Wonderflex is an US product.

Their is some differences between Wonderflex and Worbla, but not much. 

Color Worbla is orange and Wonderflex is white. See picture down below.

They are basically the same however Worbla has the same texture on both sides, it can be heated and form around molds much more easier . When making armor pieces you would need two pieces of the same template or design, and a long with a piece of foam to stick in between the worbla pieces, once the worbla is heated.Then just press the worbla pieces together around the foam and  make sure you press out all the air bubbles, doing the two pieces of Worbla with foam will make it very sturdy and will not be flexible but can take a beating, so keep in mind that if you make a chest plate armor you will not be able to bind down.
 Let Worbla cool then  heat it back up to form to the desire look you would like to have.   Such as the pictures below are shown.  Worbla can become heavy due to the doubling up the pieces.
Worbla you can buy from http://www.cosplaysupplies.com/store.php?p=WORB1 which is located here in the US , but costs about - $80 per sheet  for a big roll. The reason for the high cost is transporting worbla from Over Seas.

Wonderflex which has a mesh on one side of the product, and the other side is smooth for painting and details. Keep in mind due to the mesh it does not form well in or over molds. Worbla is great with forming over or in molds.

 The mesh can make it sturdy without doubling up on Wonderflex unlike Worbla, but it can still be flexible, but can take a beating as well, its Light weight.  If you had no choice but to get wonderflex you can still double up on  it to use it like you would with Worbla.

Wonderflex can be much cheaper in costs, about $40-45 per sheet due to it being made here in the US.   

I hope you can see it, I tried to take a close up on the mesh that is on the Wonderflex.  The mesh you would have this on the inside of the armor pieces unless you wanted your armor pieces to have texture for a more battle look

So their isn't really anything to it ,. Both work with heat guns or hair drier.Forms to designs to make armor. Do not have to use glues or anything like that to form to armor or designs. once warm both become sticky Worbla or Wondeflex can stick to one another or anything plastic like another produce is called Friendly plastics which are great for details

Before painting if you have to attach anything to Worbla or Wonderflex like jewels or making harnesses to make the armor stay on use superglue. Do Not use hot glue due to both products are plastic hot glue will peel right off , I know this is weird but I've tried it and always peeled off. Also do this before painting, if you paint before trying to stick things on. The paint will peel right off the Worbla or Wonderflex if the harness or jewels fall off.

Painting these two produces are easy and the same process. Primer and color paint. Do not paint then shape your armor, the paint can bubble up and peel off with heat. So always shape then paint.

Mera's update

So I finished my top for Mera , however I would really like your opinion if it looks awesome or do I need to change a color or leave it how it is.

Keep in mind this is a Mera reboot so it is going a different direction but still would like to hear what you all have to say.

Update!

Hey everyone!!
I know I haven't written a post in a while. I've been really busy with helping other friends with cosplay building.
 Update on my secret costume is ever so close to being done just needs the right paint and then I can show it off. Maybe! Just Kidding.

Update on Mera well I have been waiting for the scale mail to get here from Canada.I did make a bra out of Worbla for this Cosplay however I rather show it off when I have the scale mail part on the bra.

 Venting about an artist .For those's who where wondering what happened to Mera's rebooted concept drawing from an artist named Matt Campbell artist of comic book Mythica, well he decided not to inform me he doesn't want to do the drawing any more even tho he was excited for it when I spoke to him at Denver Comic Con at the end of May he said he would get it done before June was over, when I sent him  messages, he ignores my messages but its ok I'll give my money to someone who does really want it.  Since Matt did this I have went my own direction on Mera and I do know of another artist who worked for Zenescope and is willing to do the art drawing off of what I came up with on my Mera reboot.
 Point of my madness, I think if you want people to take your art serious then why would you burn that bridge? I just thought to give him the chance to make his art come true and be worn in front of millions of people. I wouldn't have been offended if he would of just told me at the end June "Hey I do not wish to do that drawing of Mera anymore or something" but no I waited and waited ,hoped he would of been nice enough to get back to me but no worries I have been working on the out fit.
Never again will I support his art, or donated money for his books. He made it very apparent that he does not respect me or his fans.

Brighter side Star Wars!!!!

This is another character that I am going to do!!!! Since Star Wars Convention in CA and also my fiance is getting approved into the 501st Star Wars club , I need a Star Wars Character to at least troop with him , even tho this Character is not approve able in the 501st. I still would like to cosplay with him.

surprise secret costume update

Hello Everyone!
I hope you all are doing good. I haven't posted in a while since I've been working my tail off and so excited to hopefully finish this secret costume soon. So down below is some of what I have half way done or starting on. Can you figure it out yet????

Secret surprise costume!!

Hello Everyone!!
So I have found a costume I am overly excited for, unlike all my other costumes this one I am not saying who the character is until it is all the way finished however I will be taking pictures of the costume in parts and pieces. Just to show the progress I am making on this costume. Now I am working with foam for right now but I might build it again in or cover the foam in Wonderflex. This is my first time building with foam on an armor suit unlike my fiance who has worked and built an Iron Man suit out of foam , he is my teacher.

Mera update

Oh Tridents

Hey Everyone!
So to say the truth , Cosplayer's are some times picky. I've been trying to redo my Tridents for Mera since I do not like the ones I made first off and I think I got it! I tried a new different approach to making them and it seems to be amazing idea. I made a mold using clay that is cured in an oven but before I cured the clay I pressed into the clay using a foam trident which gave me a good design and shape that I liked . Yes I burned the clay which at the time I was working out with my hula hoop plus I wasn't worried about not burning the clay since I will only use it for molding. So what I did after it cured is grabbed a small sheet of worbla heated it and formed it into the mold, so far i like this idea much better. Sometimes just testing ideas turns out and sometimes it doesn't.

Mera's Ocean Crown Part 2

Hello everyone!
So I've been busy with Mera's Ocean crown and on another costume that I am modeling with in a photo shoot this coming up Saturday. However this is what I have done so far on the crown. I've covered it with worbla and worked of on the Tridents.

I did have to mark where the middle was to make sure I have room for the tridents and my ocean jewel .I am starting to like my reboot of Mera so far!

Water Weapon update!!! #2

So I spent almost all day coloring the white ornament balls to pearl blue , it wasn't easy but can be done. Don't mind the green tape at the bottom of the prop that's so I don't crush the wires,I have put the LED's in the ornaments but I have not hooked the LEDs to a battery adapter but the LEDs will show up and light up  the water weapon I have tested this to make sure. Just have to do some miner touches and it will be done and ready for Wizard World Austin Texas! 

However today we did get in that new product I mentioned in my last post, so hopefully very soon you will be reading a new post on this product.  

Just to give you some back ground on who is Mera. She is Aqua Mans wife. Mera has the unique ability to form "hard water" objects, as well as super strength and powers related to her adaptation to live under water. She has been shown to be powerful enough to control, albeit briefly, huge amounts of water, enough to pull an entire army out to sea. Due to her intended role as an infiltrator and a killer, Mera received extensive training in Xebel, becoming a formidable opponent on her own

Ocean Crown Part 1

Hey Everyone!
So I just started on my Mera Ocean Crown. Still waiting for the concept art to be done with for Mera's outfit. This is what I have done so far....

So above is my Mera crown out of foam, I am going to be using a lot of different produces such as Worbla , Friendly Plastics mold pellets, Clear Casting Resin and possibly a Newer Product that my fiance and I are testing out for a business that might start caring this, they wanted to see what we can do with it before they sale it however I am not able to say what the product is until we do the pro and con's of this product like I did for Foam and Worbla post a while back. I will be doing a blog based only on the new product when building a part of Mera's crown or something else. Now with that being said "Lets Go Down Below"

     

I know these's pictures are not the greatest, the lighting made it really hard to do pictures , but just to give you an idea I also did a clear casting resin ocean scene. That will be put on the crown as well.    

So I am really excited to start on Mera's costume, I did get to see a start of what the artist had drawn so far. So please keep checking back and bare with me, since I am still doing the waiting game for this costume.

Also one more thing, I am still working on Mera's Water Weapon as soon as that is done to i will do an update as well.

Dragon eyes!

Hello Everyone!

So I decided to just out of no were  to make dragon eyes, I love making stuff with the clear polyester casting resin. I am not sure what I going to do with them. Maybe necklaces and bracelets ect.

Above is some painting pallets that I used for my molds I put the resin in and let it cure. After letting it cure put in the freezer let it chill the resin then tap the painting pallets until resin comes out.  

This is the back of the eye (Flat side) where I painted my dragon and after let it dry. I changed color and and painted around the black.

And this is what I designed today , they still need to be sanded to get a clear look to them but so far it looks awesome! Sorry if some of my pictures are cloudy.

Oh My Conventions

Hello Everyone, 

Now that Denver Comic Con is way over and done for, until 2014. Sometimes after every convention  I feel a little empty inside like sadden in away of knowing that I have to wait a whole year for my home state to have another major comic convention. However, Colorado does have smaller conventions throughout the year but no matter what Denver Comic Con is and forever my favorite it was my first Con and since then I've been hooked and will go back every year. In the mean time of waiting , there are some Conventions/Expos that are to die for throughout the world, I do have my own list of Conventions & Expos that I would love to visit sooner then later. Someday my goal is to have visited all of them just to be able to say what is special about each convention, cause people who are not new at the convention scene knows each one has something new and different to enjoy.

There is one Convention that I have heard negative things about, which is the San Diego Comic Con International. I have heard its more like a celebrity show off convention then a Comic con , which everyone has the right to come to conventions and others things but if your not a famous celebrity then your a no one  and you get treated like poo, this is what I have heard and I also heard that with cosplayers before you can enter the convention security gets to decide if your costume is worthy enough to come in  (like Bender would say I find that offensive)  and another thing is how they did the ticket sales this year 2013 member ID badges required what happened to just putting in how many tickets you want? 

Please correct me if I am wrong or give me your in put about this convention I would greatly appreciate it, however please do not be rude this is what I have heard from friends or friends about there experiences.  

 I have heard so many  negative things it kinda turns me off , This is one convention I would like to experience since its the big in on new movies coming out but if the convention like this is that strict on Tickets to cosplay to being treated a no one then to me there is nothing to enjoy.

Mera's Water Weapon update

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day.

                                                             Reminder this is not all the way complete , I still have to do some hot gluing to make the water closer to the ornaments but before I glue I have to decide where I want to put the small LED's lights and also I am still deciding rather I should or shouldn't color the ornaments blue too.  

                                                           This is with it kinda  lit up with a LED flash light just to give me an idea how it is going to look.

                                                      So Far it looks awesome since I've never seen anything like this for a Costume prop. So my character will all the way be something new and different from the norm.

Above is a video about the Top 5 Worst Cosplay costumes this video was done by a Lisa Foiles who was judging other cosplayer costumes. Which I don't think this is acceptable behavior to say something to down grade someone else rather they are in costumes or in normal cloths or even the way they look or weight, this video has showed her true colors.Who is she to judge cosplayers when yet she is not in costume to know how much it takes of your inner self to wear the costume in front of others, the courage and creatively of cosplayers is something that prove being brave has its own rewards. Yea Im not a skinny cosplayer but I am a cosplayer and I do demand respect and saying something about my weight or my looks or even my costumes it still falls under my past post Cosplay Does Not Give Consent.

A) You do not walk in my shoes to know how I feel,  you judge me based on my looks ,weight,costume when yet I could be an awesome person to know.
B) I am willing to help anyone beginner or pro with there costumes, if any one of my readers ever had a question or needed help with cosplay. I will help them in any way I can.

Lisa Foiles should never speak about Cosplay since she does not know the true meaning of Cosplay.
I know that this has caused an issue with cosplayers due to it comes down to the line of respect for others.

For my readers sorry about this but I think that anyone who loves to cosplay should know that any cosplay that you build for your self ,you should never be a shamed of it! Stand Strong for Cosplay!

Mera's cosplay prop (Aqua's Mans Wife)

So I started on my next new cosplay at least the weapon prop at this time, we are still waiting for my concept Art to be done by Comic Artist Matt Campbell, who is trying to improve Mera's outfit since AquaMan looked awesome in the Injustice God Among Us Game. I thought why can't Mera have an awesome new look to her too. The reason why I wanted to do a water prop is, well Aqua Man and Mera control the Sea and while AquaMan has his trident what can Mera have, A water weapon!  

Since this prop is not done ,I am and will make a list of all the things I used in the making of this prop when I am finished.
